County Health & Wellness Fair scheduled Sept. 22
Lihue: The public is invited to take part in the county's
Fifth annual Health and Wellness Fair scheduled on Thursday,
Sept. 22, 10 am to 2 pm.
The event will be held at the Lihue Civic Center in the
breezeway between the Moikeha and Pi'ikoi buildings.
Information on a wide variety of health concerns will be
available at the fair including: addiction, enforcement and
treatment; childcare; drug prevention, financial planning;
glucose and blood pressure tests; healthy lifestyles;
parenting skills; prescription drugs; recovery assistance;
smoking cessation; stress management; suicide prevention; and
more.
In addition, the Committee on the Status of Women will be
hosting a cooking demonstration and there will be Zumba
demonstrations.
Senior photo IDs, Reiki, and mini-massages will also be
offered at the fair.
"I believe it's important for the County to offer its
employees and their families as well as the general public
current information on health concerns," said Theresa Koki,
anti-drug coordinator. "With our support, we can help those
that need our assistance to lead more productive and
fulfilling lives, both personally and professionally."
Representatives of over 30 organizations will have
informational tables at the fair and will be available for
questions including: Agency on Elderly Affairs; Al-Anon
Family Groups; Alcoholics Anonymous; Alu Like; Brainwaves
Kaua'i LLC; Child and Family Services; Circles of Light;
Committee on the Status of Women; Department of Liquor
Control; Good Beginnings Alliance; Hale Kipa; Hale 'Opio
Kaua'i Inc.; Heart Vision Coaching; Hina Mauka Teen Care; and
HMSA.
The following organizations will also be represented at the
Health and Wellness Fair: Ho'ola Lahui Hawai'i; Kapa'a Boys
and Girls Club; Kaua'i County Anti-Drug Program; Kaua'i Drug
Court; Kaua'i Family Guidance Center; Kaua'i Police
Department; Love the Journey; Malama Pono Health Services;
McKenna Recovery Center; Prosecuting Attorney's Office;
Psychic Services, Indeed!; U-Turn for Christ; Women in Need;
and YWCA Kaua'i.
The fair is being held in recognition of National Recovery
Month and Women's Health Month.
This year's theme Join the Voices for Recovery: Recovery
Benefits Everyone aims to raise awareness about substance use
disorders and celebrates the millions of Americans in
recovery who live healthy and productive lives.
The Health and Wellness Fair is sponsored by: Kaua'i County
Anti-Drug Office; Agency on Elderly Affairs; Committee on the
Status of Women; Department of Liquor Control; Department of
Parks and Recreation; Kaua'i Police Department; and the
Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
